Last month the faculty of Dozier-Libbey Medical High School in Antioch filed a petition with its district to convert to a public charter school effective next school year. All indications are that this conversion will happen and there has been overwhelming support for the change from the students, parents, and teachers directly affected by it. However, there has also been a great deal of misinformation circulating among the greater community. In light of this, I’d like to address a few. significant items ballet flats with straps across foot.

A common misconception is that, as a charter, Dozier-Libbey will be leaving the realm of public education. This is completely untrue. The school will continue to be a public high school, funded by state money, and serving the Antioch community. By law, Dozier-Libbey must and will remain accessible to all applicants, free of charge. If there are more applicants than seats available, there is lottery to determine who is admitted. Currently, admission to Dozier-Libbey is done by lottery. Academic performance cannot and will not be used as a criterion for admission ballet flats with straps across foot. It would be illegal for Dozier-Libbey, as a public charter school, to “handpick” its enrollees in any way. Dozier-Libbey’s student population will continue to mirror the demographics of the surrounding community..

A second point of confusion is that the school’s conversion to a charter will cost the district jobs and funding. Dozier-Libbey’s conversion to a charter school will result in no loss of jobs in Antioch. In fact, the teachers’ petition cites the intention to add full-time positions that have not existed previously. Even if current employees at Dozier-Libbey were to transfer to other district schools to avoid the conversion, their leaving would create vacancies in positions that have been historically highly sought-after by AUSD employees, and which would then be open to applicants within the district. There will be no net loss of jobs. The state funding of public schools is based on each individual school’s attendance figures, or “ADA.” ballet flats with straps across foot.

This will not change with Dozier-Libbey’s conversion ballet flats with straps across foot. The difference is that the school’s own governing board will make spending decisions about its own funding rather than those decisions being made by a centralized, school district office. AUSD will lose Dozier-Libbey’s ADA revenue, but it will also be relieved of Dozier-Libbey’s operating expenses. Dozier-Libbey will pay a lease to AUSD for the buildings and property it occupies, and will pay for any services contracted from the district. In addition, Dozier-Libbey will turn over a portion of its revenue each year to the charter’s authorizing agency which may be AUSD..

Check the facts! An excellent resource about charter schools is the California Charter Schools Association at www.cacharter.org. The vote of the East County Fire District Board to postpone a parcel tax vote until November is just another indication of the board’s inability to solve the fiscal problems that plague the district. After wasting thousands of taxpayer dollars on an outside consultant, the board realizes it has no chance of winning a June victory and a less-than-even chance of wining in November ballet flats with straps across foot.

I admit I was surprised. I remembered Michael Smuin’s “Carmina Burana,” performed suggestively to the Carl Orff score, and expected that the program would repeat the pattern of recent years, where new work that steered clear of the tawdry would get rounded out by a sentimental Smuin dance or one stuffed with a kind of corny sleaze. Instead, the company of 16 danced the afternoon away with wit, passion and real, rather than simulated, sexiness black ballet slippers. Performing three works with strong structural similarities yet compelling differences and tackling them with confident artistry, the troupe had no problem turning its backs on adolescent antics..

Do not expose your jewelry to any product that contains bleach, ammonia, alcohol, fingernail polish removers that contain acetone, and turpentine (perfumes, lotions). Keep your jewelry as dry as possible.♥Due too many factors, sterling silver will tarnish over time. This is a natural occurring process. To clean, use a professional silver cleaning cloth or a Pro Polish Pad. Gently rub lengthwise. Do not immerse in a silver dip cleaner. It will take the black etching off your pieces. ♥If you purchased copper or brass pieces, they will tarnish quicker than silver. Due to the oils in our bodies and other external factors (lotions, perfumes), the process will vary. Use a Pro Polish Pad to clean and polish items. Silver polishing clothes will not work on copper or brass.♥To keep pieces from oxidizing in your jewelry box, seal them in an air tight zip lock bag. You can put a silica gel packet inside the bag with your jewelry (the kind that comes in a shoe box or purse) or anti tarnish paper to keep the moisture out.

Crew described how he treated five patients with life-threatening flesh-eating disease by irrigating their wounds with NeutroPhase, a pure hypochlorous solution developed by Emeryville, Calif-based NovaBay Pharmaceuticals Inc., and vacuuming the affected areas using negative pressure wound therapy. Hyphochlorous acid, a natural substance, when produced in the body’s immune system, serves as a first defense against microbial invaders. Mortality from flesh-eating disease can be as high as 80 percent without aggressive treatment; however, all of the patients Crew has treated at Seton Medical Center for necrotizing fasciitis using this new approach have survived without loss of limb as a result of the condition womens navy blue ballet flats.

“Now for the first time we can stop the progress of this terrible disease,” said Crew in an email womens navy blue ballet flats. Although Crew did not win the award, Joanne Allen, president and CEO of Seton Medical Center and Seton Coastside, said in an email, “Dr. Crew’s nomination for the prestigious Lister Legacy Prize is a well-deserved recognition of his excellent work in developing the standard of care for this disease and reflects the quality of care we deliver to our patients at Seton.” “We believe Dr. Crew has shown that NeutroPhase will be a very important adjunctive therapy for flesh-eating disease,” wrote Ron Najat, CEO of NovaBay and one of the co-authors of Crew’s Lister Legacy Prize presentation..

Correspondent. All that appeared to change Wednesday in one thrilling swoop as the 46-year-old Russian emigre overturned the small and lovely world one has come to expect from him with the West Coast premiere of “Shostakovich Trilogy” for Program 5 at San Francisco Ballet womens navy blue ballet flats. “Trilogy” is one of the most complex and bracing works of ballet to appear on stage in years. The choreographer demonstrates just how much clout neoclassical dance language still has. Set to three works by the heavily censored Shostakovich, known for burying his subversion under the sounds of national uplift, this full-evening ballet is a history of Soviet society. It begins with Stalin’s blanket of fear and the weighty conformity of the masses, and concludes with the athletic triumphalism of the later 20th-century dance, from expressionism to vapid athleticism..

Crafted as a triptych, as Russian icon paintings often are, the evening begins with Symphony No. 9, a work expected to celebrate Russia’s triumph over Germany in WWII, but which instead bursts with dark ironies. Here Ratmansky plunges Sarah Van Patten and Carlos Quenedit into a journey echoing the trials of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, although these lovers’ path is filled with terrifying fairy tale forces womens navy blue ballet flats. Like Shostakovich, Ratmansky reveals complexity by shifting from the dark to the light, the dire to the wry like dangerous quicksilver. The corps performs crisp, insouciant jetes with quirky hand gestures or sharp jolts of the head, their patterns clear but the mass of patterns an organized chaos. They also move like frenzied machines, like ravaged villagers, like obedient workers, their shifts conjuring up manipulative and irrational forces..

Simone Messmer and James Sofranko are lush counterforces, while Taras Domitro, like a modern Mercutio, embodies some unnamable heroic presence womens navy blue ballet flats. Van Patten and Quenedit, holding hands in fear and awe, are swept up, yet alone, and when Van Patten crumples like a marionette, first to an elbow, then to her arm, then to her side and finally rolls on her back, we know she’s in a place with no exit. Section three, led by Damian Smith and Yuan Yuan Tan, and Maria Kochetkova and Vitor Luiz and set to Piano Concerto No. 1, is a two-toned world littered with broken Soviet stars, fractured planes and sickles. In place of love and terror, Ratmansky gives us the shrill comedy of triumphalism, displayed through athletic razzamatazz (designer George Tsypin, by the way, designed the opening Olympics ceremony in Sochi). The corps, dressed in spandex unitards, gray in front, dusky red in back, are comic, absurd yet virtuosic. Parodies of contemporary ballet abound..

The premieres are individual works by Smuin choreographer in residence Amy Seiwert, as well as Val Caniparoli, principal character dancer with San Francisco Ballet and an internationally acclaimed choreographer. Caniparoli’s piece, “Tutto Eccetto il Lavandino” (“Everything But the Kitchen Sink”) marries Vivaldi music with his trademark high-energy moves. In “But Now I Must Rest,” meanwhile, Seiwart celebrates the late soulful singer Cesária Évora, the “Barefoot Diva” from Cape Verde who in reality was anything but a prima donna black ballet flats target.

All three works will be on view in Smuin Ballet’s XXcentric Spring Dance Series, running May 21-25 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St., Mountain View. This is the 10th work for the company by Seiwart, who has been with Smuin since 1999. “Some music really insists on being made into ballets black ballet flats target. The music of Cesária Évora started tugging at my subconscious last spring,” Seiwart blogged about her inspiration in 2013 for the piece she was to premiere this year. “By the summer I was mildly obsessed, I could see the ballet.”..

Instead, she chose to ride Hines’ swinging exuberance as a wave capezio aria pointe shoes size chart. Costumed in black moray tops and pants with black or orange side insets, her dancers strutted, marched, wiggled and flew in a zone between jazz, ballet and theater. Voice-over dialogue spoke of catastrophe and faith that Axis’ dancers embodied with a rolling wheelchair and daring physicality. Robert Moses’ “Tip,” which is vernacular for a way of feeling or being, was set to Graham’s soul/funk guitar (think the opening riff on Seinfeld). To begin, the dancers gathered center stage in a pack under shadowy red light and then exploded. What ensued was a series of partnerings and counterpoints that emphasized the sexiness of the heavy bass beat, the flying phrases, and Graham’s capacity to bend the notes as far backward as Moses asked his men to bend the women. “Tip” was at its strongest when Moses created blocks of movement that spoke to the overall shape of the music, but the summery costumes by Christopher Dunn undermined the driving ’70s intensity of the work..

Molissa Fenley’s “Redwood Park” shifted attention toward the region’s diffuse Asian aspect, with Jeanrenaud’s Eastern-inflected composition for wooden percussion, drums and cymbal, played with dazzling precision by Anna Wray and Nava Dunkelman, with Fenley’s repeated use of extended martial-style lunges and upright stances echoing verticality of the redwoods. Originally designed for five men (Emily Kerr replaced an injured dancer), the work took inspiration from Fenley’s long walks through the park, depicted by circuitous, switchback floor patterns and a sense of a landscape, both continuous and ever-changing capezio aria pointe shoes size chart.

Turf dancing stands for “taking up room on the floor” and is a street dance form spawned in Oakland by dancers wanting to memorialize their murdered friends and family. Lustig tried valiantly to fuse the grass roots idiom and ballet with live feed from the stage and the graffiti art of Samuel Renaissance, but the work seemed to be still forming — neither street dance nor concert work. It didn’t help that the costumes looked pure ’80s, with ballet dancers in mismatched ballet gear and skewed hats or that the gifted pair Morgan and Thompson, both of Turffeinz, never got to let loose capezio aria pointe shoes size chart. A worthy effort all the same, it points to Lustig’s desire to be part of a movement to make ballet open its mind and doors and let in the new..
