Special installation with Chesa Caparas’ Stanford Human Rights Fellowship project and artists’ books by De Anza College Art and Design students. Presented in conjunction with Silicon Valley Reads. Through March 20. Euphrat Museum of Art, De Anza College, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino. Gallery hours Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. 408-864-5464, deanza.edu/euphrat..

As the title suggests, intense moods prevail in the trio of works that will be presented. The program’s highlight is Czech choreographer Jiří Kylián’s Return to a Strange Land, a piece for six dancers with a most painful background. Kylián conceived Return nearly four decades ago as a tribute to his mentor, Stuttgart Ballet director John Cranko, who died suddenly on a company flight home to Germany from America. Return is set to early 20th-century piano solos from a song cycle by composer Leoš Janáček, a fellow Czech who created the melancholy tunes to mourn the passing of his own daughter buy shellac for pointe shoes.

The Bay Area premiere of Return took place last October with Smuin, which knows firsthand the devastation of unexpected loss. Founder Michael Smuin died of a heart attack in 2007 while teaching a company class. XXtremes’ sunny side is represented by Dear Miss Cline, a 2011 work by Amy Seiwert, choreographer in residence and a former Smuin dancer buy shellac for pointe shoes. The romping salute to country music pioneer Patsy Cline includes 10 of her classics, including “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “Come On In” and “She’s Got You.”..

Last on the program is Smuin’s Carmina Burana, set to Carl Orff’s same-named cantata buy shellac for pointe shoes. The work, which ends with the rip-roaring “O Fortuna,” is a celebration of life, lust and joy at the same time that it “mourns the cruelty of fate.” It’s a fitting coda to XXtremes and a showcase for the company, which has always embraced bold expressiveness and fearlessness. Celia Fushille, Smuin’s artistic and executive director–and onetime principal dancer–is merely carrying on a proud tradition..

It will take the black etching off your pieces. ♥If you purchased copper or brass pieces, they will tarnish quicker than silver. Due to the oils in our bodies and other external factors (lotions, perfumes), the process will vary. Use a Pro Polish Pad to clean and polish items. Silver polishing clothes will not work on copper or brass.♥To keep pieces from oxidizing in your jewelry box, seal them in an air tight zip lock bag. You can put a silica gel packet inside the bag with your jewelry (the kind that comes in a shoe box or purse) or anti tarnish paper to keep the moisture out.

The most recent gathering included an international lawyer who works full time and has two kids, another mother of two who recently re-entered the workforce as a part-time construction manager and a lobbyist with two children whose husband used to be a stay-at-home dad but who is back to working. The one mom who doesn’t work outside the house was too busy and Overwhelmed to make it international dance shoes bag. “Ha!” was what all of the women said when I asked them whether the University of Maryland time-management guru featured in Schulte’s book is wrong in saying American women have 30 hours a week of leisure time..

“Some confetti, maybe,” the construction manager said. Our having-it-all, second-shift lives leave many of us conflicted. And exhausted enough to fall asleep on the floor of the kids’ bedroom, still in our work clothes, drooling on the smartphones in our hands. There is so much to say on this topic. It’s about a workforce that isn’t as friendly to men as it is to women when it comes to flexibility and family time. It’s about a nation that insists it’s family-friendly yet has never meaningfully addressed safe, reliable child care. It’s about a truly new world order where our hunter-gatherer genes are completely eclipsed by the physically attainable yet emotionally challenged goal of gender parity international dance shoes bag.

But let’s get back to how it all feels: better after a lovely bottle of Xanthos red we all shared. The problem is, we make time confetti because we often misunderstand what it is that makes us good parents and good employees. The construction manager, who left a high-profile job being a kick-butt, feminist woman in a male-driven industry, thought focusing full time on the kids would produce strong, happy boys international dance shoes bag. But then she heard this: Her older son was at a playdate one day, and a girl put a backpack on and pretended to head off to work. “Silly Hannah,” the boy later told his tough-as-nails mom. “Girls don’t go to work. Only boys do.”..

“That shook me to the core,” the construction manager said. Or take the lobbyist, who actually made history a few years back as the first female chief counsel in a high-profile government job. She’s a military veteran with two girls and was eager to stay on her high-caliber career trajectory, with retired naval officer Dad staying home with them. Feminist’s dream? international dance shoes bag. “I was miserable. One month I’d be in Europe, and two weeks later I’d be in Asia,” she said. “I never saw them. I was missing everything.”..

Ditto with the international lawyer, who was Skyping from Nairobi with the kids to talk about homework. “There’s a reason I’m not in Ukraine right now negotiating the aid package,” she said international dance shoes bag. Lean in? Recline? What is best?. The only thing we know for sure is that the things we think we have to do to be good moms aren’t always working. There is all this pressure, for sure. Magazines, Pinterest, the Other Parents. Our memories of what our childhood was and wasn’t. The pressure is external and internal..

“Sky: A National Juried Exhibition” has transformed the Bedford Gallery into a place of dreams and daring expression on display through May 25 pink ballet shoes. Eighty-seven artists selected by jurors DeWitt Cheng, a San Francisco-based writer and critic, and Elizabeth Ferrer, director of contemporary art at BRIC in Brooklyn, provide 87 different answers to the question: What is sky?. Even before Vincent van Gogh swirled the starry night into a richly textured stew and Ansel Adams captured thunderous storm clouds descending upon Yosemite Valley, the vast, mercurial nature of Earth’s upper atmosphere has transfixed humans..

Myths, poetry, literature, symphonies, ballets, hurricanes, meteorites, space pioneers and colossal wars have all played out various scenarios of fury and finery — inspired by the possibility of open air pink ballet shoes. Locally, 20th century California plein air painters like William Keith and Marion Kavanaugh Wachtel demonstrated their affinity for the state’s grand, coastal and rural settings where cerulean skies contrast rugged rock. The contemporary artists included in the gallery’s exhibit are no less commanding. From sprawling aerial oceans of expected blue to densely etched and blackened domes to lollypop-colored polka dots immersed in bubbles, “the sky’s the limit” climbs from cliché to concise description of the works’ range..

Happily, “Sky” includes a substantial number of artists who live and work in the East Bay, offering a welcome opportunity to view local talent that won’t disappear when the show closes. Bea Guttman of Walnut Creek works in layers that suggest both fire and ice in her painting “Dusk.” Gutman said the piece was inspired by a trip to the Oregon coast. El Cerrito artist Ellen Yamada Tzvetin’s monotype prints resonate with mystery and mist. Spectacular black shards thrust into textured gray fields and there’s a tumbling, which-end-is-up affect to the perspectives pink ballet shoes. “Inviting or threatening, soundless or thundering, the sky is an endless source of inspiration,” she wrote in an email..

Kat Mulkey of Lafayette referred in an interview to the Earth as “this rock we stand on.” Her “Black Holes Are Real” photograph proves the firmness of aerial images pink ballet shoes. Photography, she said, is “instinctively a trusted and factual medium.”. Acknowledging the age of Photoshop might mean viewers are skeptical about the medium’s authenticity, she asserted there are as many visions of sky as there are viewers and creators. Looking at the work of her peers, she said, “I felt the community of ‘Sky.’ I can’t wait to see what the other folks come up with.”..

Elizabeth Williams, a Berkeley-based photographer, correlated the serendipity of her photographic discoveries with the sky’s rich, ever-fluctuating and dynamic canvas. “Purposefully enigmatic, my images are intended to elicit and prolong a state of not knowing,” she said. Some images are ambiguous: the collision of clouds and blue tones as a building mural of painted sky merges with actual sky in “Oakland, 2011.” What is real?. A large thundercloud propelled Peter McNeil of Walnut Creek well beyond the fluid paints he used to capture the moment. A slim footbed of golden grass gives rise to a towering, purple-gray cloud in the painting at the Bedford. McNeil’s imagination is no less mountainous. Suggesting the sky is benevolent, creature-filled, an indicator of time and season, and more, he said the theme — and art’s capacity for exploration — is endless pink ballet shoes.

Director George Hencke’s insightful film does a good job recounting Spandau Ballet’s ascent, which brought the band from the London club scene to the top of the U.K. charts with the blue-eyed soul classic “True” in 1983. He does an even better job with its descent, as bickering eventually brought the band to its knees and, eventually, the courtroom. Fortunately, that was not to be the end of Spandau Ballet. The group has reunited and even performed at South by Southwest. The film closes with a performance clip of the band, which came from an earlier reunion date ballet flats with ribbon kids. The group — especially vocalist Tony Hadley — sounds quite strong in the segment. It’s more than enough to make one long for a full North American Spandau Ballet tour..

Though with barely a traditional ballet step in sight, the four works’ choreographers also put great weight on the beating heart of every ballet: the pas de deux. The encounter between a man and woman — tender, contentious, mysterious — sets off sparks no matter your perspective. The program continues 8 p.m. March 22 and 1:30 p.m. March 23. Igal Perry’s “Infinity” was set on four couples; Dwight Rhoden’s “Evermore” and Vicente Nebrada’s “Nuestros Valses” on five. Even Paul Taylor’s dark and dangerous “Piazzola Caldera” examined that eternal tension between the sexes ballet flats with ribbon kids.

At times all these one-on-one encounters stretched my patience. Yet Carreno’s programming, as a friend pointed out, allowed focused attention on individual dancers ballet flats with ribbon kids. Several of them are new; many of them were from the Corps, which rarely offers that kind of opportunity in the spotlight. Overall, Carreno gave us a pleasant evening of decent, well-performed work by respected choreographers. Not a bad way to build a company and an audience. While Beethoven’s Adagio of the “Hammerklavier” Sonata No. 29 in B flat major, Op. 106 is hardly “popular” music, Perry’s clean and sculptural “Infinity” choreography made musical sense. He placed the dancers into an expansive space that reached deep into the darkness beyond the stage. By opening themselves calmly into intricate, highly stylized encounters, the dancers in “Infinity” suggested an underlying harmony of being..

Alexsandra Meijer looked vulnerable and ever-so-yielding in the arms of new principal dancer Nathan Chaney — tall, lithe and strong. Cindy Huang and Joshua Seibel impressed with the lyricism in their transparent one-on-one. In a lovely touch, the dancing continued for a while even after the music had stopped. “Evermore’s” star was Nat King Cole ballet flats with ribbon kids. His songs still get feet tapping and fingers snapping. Rhoden, who is at home on Broadway and in ballet, did the honors in choreography that was jazzy, fast-paced, and with just a touch of romance floating about it..

The dancers seemed to be having the time of their lives. Sarah Stein, partnered delicately by Thomas Baker, whipped up a storm in her turns. Amy Marie Briones and James Kopecky — still a Corps member — are the new couple to watch out for ballet flats with ribbon kids. Refined but strong, their partnership exudes electricity. Nebrada’s somewhat long but appealing “Nuestros Valses,” the only work performed in pointe shoes and to live music, opened the waltz, that quintessential couple dance, into a community affair..

We walked to the ballet at the San Jose Center for Performing Arts. We relaxed to live jazz at the art deco Hedley Club Lounge in the Hotel De Anza. And we went totally nuts as the San Jose Sharks skated through double overtime at SAP Center. They lost to the Washington Capitals, but fans still had plenty to celebrate. The Sharks are a perennial playoff team and a huge draw for downtown San Jose. San Jose bills itself as an ideal Bay Area destination. More temperate than San Francisco (300-plus mild, sunny days a year), it’s a short drive to beaches, wine regions and Monterey. But I’m betting you’ll find — as we did — that your car stays parked in the hotel garage. San Jose’s downtown hub has too much to offer. The siren call has never been more alluring very fine dance shoes coupon.

An online petition is asking for the “Hula” app to change its name. Critics call the app that says it helps people “get lei’d” culturally insensitive and insulting, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser (http://ow.ly/v0jgL) reported very fine dance shoes coupon. Hula’s Facebook page includes a post apologizing for offending the Hawaiian community: “We are in the process of learning more from your community, discussing internally and hope to address your concerns shortly.”. The company’s website says Hula is meant to “provide access to the information you need to make well-informed sexual health decisions.”..

The three college students who started the petition say they are not opposed to the app’s functions but don’t want to see the hula dance — a beloved cultural art form — exploited. “My culture is more than a tourist destination,” said Kelly Luis, a student at Columbia University. “It is more than a place to go for the summer very fine dance shoes coupon. It’s more than just sexy hula girls on the beach. There is a culture there.”. As of Wednesday, nearly 700 people signed the petition at change.org..

The petition notes that the arrival of Europeans exposed Native Hawaiians to diseases such as gonorrhea and syphilis very fine dance shoes coupon. It’s not clear why the app is named Hula. It was originally called Qpid.me, but the name changed about six months ago. Nani Kauka, a hula teacher from Kailua, said this is another example of the Hawaii culture being exploited and misunderstood. “I don’t like it,” she said. “Why don’t they call it ballet or jazz?”. ——. — Associated Press..

Yet, the more-casual observer — who perhaps only barely recalls hearing Spandau’s name mentioned on an early MTV broadcast — can also gain something from watching this documentary. “Soul Boys of the Western World,” which had its world premiere at the 2014 South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, serves as a fascinating case study in group dynamics very fine dance shoes coupon. It’s specific to Spandau Ballet, of course. But change the individual names and it could be the story of countless other bands..

Yuda’s infiltrating takes us into the grit and the grime of Jakarta drug and prostitution rings and to the placid green of the sugar cane fields where the bodies are buried. Putra is excellent as the entitled son, ever vacillating between defiance and submission. In fact, Evans stacks the villainy ranks with a series of cool corrupted sorts. But this is Uwais’ movie. He is a remarkable athlete. The sheer precision, speed and artistry contained within each kick and punch is frankly astonishing. With the rest of the scenes unfolding in real time, he seems otherworldly. “Raid 2” also gives the actor more to do than fight. He broods about his constant state of jeopardy, misses his wife and child, rages against the machinations of both cops and criminals salsa dance shoes.

Everywhere Yuda turns, someone is spoiling for a fight, and of course, he is more than game. One of the more interesting executions involves a dispute over payoffs to Bangun. It begins with a roar in a sweatshop filled with the implements of the porn trade salsa dance shoes. It ends in silence in a snow-covered alleyway, blood from a smashed head creating red rivers in the pristine white. Many die in between. There are several moments like this, where the cinematic staging is riveting. As they did for “Redemption,” Matt Flannery and Dimas Imam Subhono split the cinematography. Uwais, a martial arts champion, does double duty as star and fight choreographer..

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT (publ. 4/4/2014, page A4) Because of incorrect information provided by the source, an earlier version of an item in Sal Pizarro’s column had an incorrect day for the grand opening of the Retro Fitness center. It will take place Saturday. The program also includes a special treat: The return of Dennis Nahat’s “Pas de Cinq” from “Swan Lake.” Nahat, the celebrated choreographer and former Ballet San Jose artistic director, has been busy working with costume designer Christina Weiland on a shimmering new look for the piece salsa dance shoes.

Yet, the more-casual observer — who perhaps only barely recalls hearing Spandau’s name mentioned on an early MTV broadcast — can also gain something from watching this documentary. “Soul Boys of the Western World,” which had its world premiere at the 2014 South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, serves as a fascinating case study in group dynamics salsa dance shoes. It’s specific to Spandau Ballet, of course. But change the individual names and it could be the story of countless other bands..

The film closes with a performance clip of the band, which came from an earlier reunion date. The group — especially vocalist Tony Hadley — sounds quite strong in the segment. It’s more than enough to make one long for a full North American Spandau Ballet tour salsa dance shoes.

The Contra Costa Commission for Women was formed in 1997 as a change agent boys ballet shoes. The Diablo Theatre Company, which just finished its 54th season, recently announced it cannot afford to stage a 2014-15 season at the Lesher Center, where it has regularly performed shows since the facility opened in 1990 boys ballet shoes. Festival Opera has already decided not to have a season at the Lesher Center, and Company C Contemporary Ballet is cutting back its schedule at the Lesher and elsewhere. Diablo Theatre Company is one of the Lesher Center’s founding arts groups and typically performs three to four shows a year there. The group cited rising costs of productions at the Lesher as the main reason for a shuttered 2014-15 season. Diablo officials hope this is a one-season break, said Sherry Caraballo Dorfman, president of the company..

The nonprofit used reserves to help pad its production costs in the past. Theater groups rarely make enough on ticket sales to pay for a production and thus rely on donors’ gifts, she said. But with costs increasing over the past few years, combined with fewer donations, the group could no longer afford to produce its famed musicals, Dorfman said. An overall lack of support from the city was also a key factor, she said. “The Lesher Center is beautiful and fabulous and it was built with the intention that community theater remain alive and well in Walnut Creek — so it was a good thing,” said Dorfman boys ballet shoes. “But I think it has become not so good now because of a lot of reasons.”..

Those reasons have been years in the making. Dorfman cites competition from other Lesher-based theater companies doing musicals — Diablo’s bread and butter — and not getting prime dates for shows at the Lesher, which made ticket sales difficult. Dorfman attributes some of that to the fact Lesher Center Manager Scott Denison, who manages the Lesher schedule, also runs the city-owned theater company CenterRep. City Manager Ken Nordhoff, speaking on the city’s behalf, said it is unfortunate to see Diablo leave, given its cornerstone company status. But he doesn’t think the city has been unfair to them or any performing arts companies boys ballet shoes.

“I want to make sure that everyone feels like they are getting an equal and fair opportunity to do what they want to do at the center — and I believe they are,” he said. “They are our customers and, by extension, their patrons are our patrons.”. Walnut Creek spends nearly $800,000 subsidizing the Lesher Center and CenterREP, according to 2011-12 city budget information boys ballet shoes. But some ask whether subsidizing a theater company with tax money hurts nonprofits that get no government backing..
