The name f.64 came from the very small lens aperture they used with large-format cameras. It is what allowed them to capture the great depth of field in their highly detailed photographic prints. Alinder was an assistant to Ansel Adams from 1979 until his death in 1984. She also has curated exhibitions worldwide, including the Adams show in 1987 at the de Young Museum. Also, note that the photo exhibit “Group f.64: Founders and Followers” is presented through Feb. 28 at Scott Nichols Gallery, 49 Geary St., Suite 415, San Francisco.
