From ballet to musical theater, from speaker series to comedy and classical music — you name it — the city has for years been known as the cultural center of the East Bay canvas pointe shoes. So when it came time to assess what else was needed to help satiateh the public’s thirst for the arts, the Diablo Regional Arts Association (DRAA) thought that what the Lesher Center needed was to jazz up the place. “Our mission is for the Lesher Center to be the entertainment hub of the East Bay,” said Peggy White, DRAA executive director. “There was no jazz in the offerings so in 2012 we came out swinging. We brought world-class jazz to the Lesher Center. That was our goal.”..

When the four-concert “Jazz at the Lesher Center” series was first offered, the 8 p.m. performances sold out almost as soon as they were announced; 5 p.m. shows were then added to the series. “During July and August there’s not much going on in the area,” White said. “It’s nice that we’re able to bring quality artists during this time canvas pointe shoes. I give credit to my board, especially to DRAA Jazz chairman Tom Donahoe, the visionary who took on this project of bringing a world-class jazz series to Walnut Creek.”..
